A wanted criminal from Bihar, identified as Gulshan from Munger, was apprehended following an encounter with police in Varanasi on Thursday. Gulshan was accused of a robbery, during which he looted ₹1 lakh in cash and a tablet from finance company agent, Yogesh Yadav in the Kanoodih area on July 23. He was a prime target for law enforcement.
According to ACP Cantt Vidush Saxena, police received a crucial tip-off about Gulshan’s whereabouts, prompting the Shivpur and Crime Branch teams to implement a strategic operation. They blocked the ring road near Haripur and initiated vehicle checks after midnight on Wednesday, hoping to catch the suspect off guard.
During the operation, officers spotted a motorcycle-borne individual who appeared to be evading the police. As they attempted to stop him, Gulshan unexpectedly opened fire on the police team. In a swift response, the officers returned fire, striking him in the leg and bringing the chase to a conclusion.
Gulshan was quickly transported to the district hospital for treatment of his injuries. In addition to apprehending the suspect, authorities recovered a country-made revolver, live cartridges, a stolen motorcycle, and a sum of cash from the scene. Gulshan had a ₹25,000 bounty on him, showing his criminal background.
